A solid interview with the very talented Andy Foster of Heresy Miniatures.

Recently as I’ve tried to thrash together a workable system to run a fallout tabletop rpg using the Chaosium Basic system combined with the Fallout New Vegas version of simple. I worked out this simple Calculator for the basic hit points per level.

As this number crunching is more or less part of the game system, i thought i would share it.

Accross = Endurance score

Obvously the maximum endurance is 10. but I calculated it up to 21 to fit in with the Basic system’s attribute scores

Busy busy.
Chistmas break came and went far too quick & between work & home life somewhere i have to find the time to climb the lead mountain to get it all painted. Might have to put together a portable painting kit to get through some of it in my lunch hour.

Hopefully though i should at least be able to update my blog, now i have a decent blogging app on my phone.

Suffice to say this time of year is always busy, I have however broken my own rule for the sake of being festive.

Hopefully they will be here soon:

So I will try to get a pic up of mine before Christmas, but if i don’t. Have a good one.

-=R286=-

As you may have guessed from this blog of mine, I am quite of the heroic questing type games & dungeon crawls.

among the most iconic of the dungeon monsters are slimes, and in a minatures game these are possibly the easiest figures to make.

Step one, prep the base you will be using, texture it, basecoat it, whatever you have to do. for dungeon flooring i tend to use textured plasticard

Once you are happy with it, take a hot glue gun & carefully create a blob on the base (at this stage, watch your fingers, shouldnt have to say that, but it is too easy to glue yourself to the base)

once they are dry choose a colour of ink or wash (reds, yellows & greens work best) I use a mix of coat d’arms ink wash blue & yellow.

then apply liberally.

Once again, wait for them to dry, then add another coat & a trail leading from them on the base.

finally, strike fear into the hearts of adventurers.

you could give them a coat of varnish to make them look even more slimy, but thats pretty much it.

you can make about 6-10 from a stick, so they are cheap to make, Very Quick & Very easy. and they look effective.

of course the ones in the picture were made with the minimum effort, but you can put more time on each & make them look great.

Mordheim: Clan Verms

Clan Verms is a pitiful Clan, shunned and reviled by all others, even those lesser clans who cannot compete with its rather limited power. Verms has affinity with insects, bugs & other types of vermin. Many species of over-sized insects, spiders, and the like have been attributed to the experiments of clan verms.

The story of the clan dates back to the invasion of Lustria, Verms were a vassal clan in service to clan Moulder. Charged with bringing back new subjects & resources to exploit for the good of the clan & council.

As is the way of skaven, ambition & treachery got the better of them. The leader of the clan, Warlord Chitik  as adept at breeding & mutating as any clan Moulder master mutator, had been catching & collecting samples of the local flora and fauna when he came across a forgotten & stagnant spawning pool. he noted that the mites that were emerging from the pool seemed bigger and more veracious then those found elsewhere in the tepid jungles. another thing he noticed was the large glyph of the horned rat seemingly formed by the mold, mildew and filth floating on the pool.

Taking that as the only sign he needed he emerged himself in the water & drank deep. No one is quite sure what happened next. some say his mind was shattered by the diseased water, however, the temple had not been part of clan pestilences campaign. others say his sanity was broken by the visions he had of the worlds creation. Regardless whatever it was, it had given him two things. the first was knowledge of the inner workings of the anatomy of insects & the hive mind that many have. the second was the drive to use it to overthrow the main clan.

The temple site is now used as one of the many breeding pits for the monstrosities that verms produce. the water has been transported to sites all over the under empire to augment their experiments.

Goblins of the world unite!

Once upon a time Kevin J. Colman Wrote a fantastic article about some of the various breeds of goblin. It was an article that gave a lot of depth to the greenskin races, being as they are a wide & varied bunch. The name of it was Goblinoid races if you want to track it down, having as it does the rules for Fire Kobolds, Troglagobs (Aquatic goblins), hill goblins & the undead and eternally cursed dust goblins.

Right across the warhammer world the greenskin family is wide & varied.

The goblin family

Left to right: Kappa, Night Goblin & Goblin

& why shouldn’t they be? they are fungus based life forms, reproduce by spores & adapt to the environments they land in.

their knowledge is innately built in to their genetic code & with the notable exception of Goblins (who emerge as snotlings) all Orcoids emerge from their “birthing sack” fully grown.

not pictured, the hungry squig

Trolls & Squigs are always hungry too

So, what’s stopping the orcs from taking over the warhammer world? in short not that much. part of it is “Magic”, part of it is that the majority of the spores die unless they are in very specific conditions.

Such as those found in the badlands

Part of it is the constant wars & conflicts with each other & other races.

Pictured: an orc at peace

& lastly there is the fact that the orc mushrooms that the birthing sacs require to provide them with the nutrients are mighty tasty to pretty much everything. many orcoids get eaten as soon as they emerge. by squigs, trolls or other orcs.

Some entertainment while you eat sir?

There are some notable exceptions, such as hobgoblins. who give birth to “seeds”. The black orcs who were created by the Chaos Dwarves & foul magic. gnoblars are also interesting, as several are often born of the same birth sack.

Well it seems I’m always the last to know about these things arent I?

its certainly is a pleasant surprise isn’t it.

I would guess that after the release of Storm of magic,

and realizing that there are still old school gamers who remember the days of monstrous armies GW have finally realized there is gold in them thar monsters.

Look at me, I’m rambling and haven’t even explained the book.

Well, Monsterous Arcana is a warhammer bestiary covering “up to” 52 monsters old and new.

the book will be released around January-Febuary 2012. & the happy folks at Warhammer forge  are hoping to have a new mini for each entry by gamesday 2012 (so around september then).

Some of the more exciting entries include more Fimir

Serpent men

several new beasties for the skaven (Loving the wolf rat wips)

A Corrupted Coatl (Affiliated with the serpent men)

a new Elemental for the 8 lores of magic. So thats the Lores of Light,  Metal, Death, Life, Heaven, Shadow, Fire & Beasts (the beast elemental has been released already)

& Plenty of other critters.

I’ve still not got storm of magic, but as i’m focusing more on mordheim & HeroQuest recently i’ve not really had much call to.

Or Maybe the title of this post should be Caveat emptor, You see, Recently on my weekly jaunt around the Virtual market that is e-bay, I came across a few auctions claiming that the GW product they were selling was “OOP” and as you would expect, bumping up the price somewhat because of the implied rarity of said item.

The thing is with Games Workshop is they keep a decent amount of the old models in production in what they call the collectors range.

And with the addition of the storm of magic supplement and the Finecast range there are a whole bunch of miniatures they just wont let die (Dogs of war and regiments of renown especially).

Even the specialist games stuff has a lot of stuff still for sale that people are bumping up the price on because they think its OOP.

So it’s always worth checking the manufacturers site, just in case the e-bayer has got it wrong.

& Remember, Google is you friend. :-)
